Manually setting up a wireless network for Windows Home XP?

This is unusual. My laptop connects perfectly to my wireless network at the office, using a D-Link. I am trying to set up a wireless network at home, and have tried 2 routers - a Trennet and a Linksys. Each says I have connected to the internet with a "good" connection, but nothing comes across on the screen. When I connect the DSL modem directly to the computer, it works perfectly. It pings on direct modem connect, does not ping on wireless connect. Something is interfering somewhere on my try to set up a home network Any ideas? Can I set yo the modem (192.168.1.1) manually?

  1. man...you need to stop writing so much!
  2. Setting up wireless is sometimes the easiest sometimes painful. i.e. if it dint work right out of the box. If your DSL is working then i suggest you use a hard link wired to your wireless router first. Then you would know for sure that you are connected to the router, now access the internet and find out the correct IP address for router configuration for the model. It differs from model to model. Another short and easy way is to find the router "reset" button and use a pointed object to press and hold e..g. in linksys. You may have to find out where and exactly how you can reset router other than linksys, i have a linksys only. Once the router is reset you can test your wireless connection. and then proceed to configure.
