What is a good set up for a wireless home network? Any tips? This will be my first one I have set up. Should my modem be the same make as my router?

  2. Hey Eric, If you start having multiple computers at home. This is indeed a great exercise. Maybe you already have a wired network. In this case, you have to be cautious; wireless networking can't do everything. You have to select carefully what machines are connected to your network with wifi. First, wifi is slower than 100Mbs common networks (except if you put a lot of money to get those latest standards). So if you want to be able to transfer huge files on the only machine you have a DVD burner or you want to play games that are network intensive, it's a good idea to choose to have these machines wired. What's good with the wireless routers out there is that they usually have some ethernet ports (at least 4) at the same time that they are allowing wireless connections. The computers that are likely to use those wireless ports are usually laptops, PDA, computers located in remote locations etc. When setting up a wireless network, you have to be cautious as you are opening your network to the rest of the neighbors. So you network needs to be protected by a password. So, keep in mind security. Have fun!
