Can you setup a computers wireless card as a access point and not an ad hoc network?

I have an ipod touch and I have tried the AD HOC method and it doesn't work. Is it possible to set up a PC's wireless card to be an access point?

  1. If you get a wireless router it will have an Access point. PC cards can only connect to each other in the AD-HOC mode and can not be setup as an AP. Sorry about that. Ad-Hoc should work if you get everything completed. See the Microsoft help file for setting up ad-hoc with ICS (internet connection sharing) It should work. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/adhoc.mspx ADDED: Now if you happen to have an old machine laying around and want to learn a little about how routers work, you can load linux on it and use routerboard or other router software which will turn SOME wireless cards (there is a compatible list) into an Access Point. Visit http://routerboard.com or http://www.wifi.com.ar/english/cdrouter/ http://www.openlinuxrouter.com/ That would turn a computer into a router and an AP
