Can you setup a computers wireless card as a access point and not an ad hoc network?

I have an ipod touch and I have tried the AD HOC method and it doesn't work. Is it possible to set up a PC's wireless card to be an access point?

1. If you get a wireless router it will have an Access point. PC cards can only connect to each other in the AD-HOC mode and can not be setup as an AP. Sorry about that. Ad-Hoc should work if you get everything completed.
