Can i access the internet on a different computer through a laptops wireless card?

I have a desktop upstairs in my room. It does not have a wireless card. We have a laptop that gets the internet through its wireless card. I was wondering if it is possible to plug an ethernet cable into both and use the laptops wireless card for internet on the laptop and internet on the desktop.

  1. I believe so. You'd need to bridge the connections. Google the phrase "Bridge Connections".
  2. Yes, this is connection sharing. But, I tried doing that and could not get it working, because: Your laptop will assume the role of your router, and reassigning the IP address all nodes on the network using DHCP to that windows 169.x.x.x Your Laptop will need to have NAT so it can translate the routable Address from your ISP to an private IP address. Your Laptop will have to be connected to the modem and not the router. I even tried setting up a subnet between my PC and the laptop (192.168.2.0/29) with the wirless internet connection to the wirless router (192.168.1.0/24), and have the laptop run a routing protocol to route between the 2.0 and 1.0 networks.... no luck It was just easier to buy a wireless PCI card for the desktop in my case. good luck
