Can I put a wireless card in a Windows 98 desktop computer?
I have an HP Windows 98 desktop computer and I want to put a wireless card in it. I have a wireless card from an old laptop, but I don't see anywhere outside or inside the computer to plug it in. Do I need a different type of card or is this even possible? The laptop the card was in was a 98 so I would assume it's possible.

- NOPE not possibe with that card. Laptop cards are for just that ... laptops. You can go to Wal Mart and get a PCI wireless card for your 98.
- that is a wireless card for a laptop , you need to get a desktop wireless card , is less expensive ,and it work the same . the slot to put the card is call pcI you could check and image of the card by copy and paste this in your browser http://img.alibaba.com/photo/11243780/Quetec_PCI_Wireless_Network_Card_For_Desktop.jpg
- they do make adapters so you can use laptop cards in desktops, but they are kind of inconvenient because it installs in the back of your computer which makes swapping cards kind of difficult, especially if you are like me and have a spaghetti bowl full of wires behind your home pc. It would probably be cheaper and easier to buy a wifi card for your desktop as the previous guy suggested.
- What you have is a laptop card. It won't fit or work in a desktop system. Try going to Fry's, Wal-Mart or any electronics store and buying a pci wireless card for the desktop. If you have a wirelss system at home ( a router) it should work after you set it up. Use your systems hardware recognition to do so. If you don't have a router at home, the desktop will not have wireless access.
