How do I know what speed of Wireless Card I need?

I need to buy a wireless card for another computer in the house. I have DSL and a Motorola router thats running. Does it matter the speed of wireless card I buy? I'm assuming 802.11G is a speed. I have no idea how to find out the speed of the router.

  1. Hi, they are all the same so don't worry about it. all you need is a "WLAN UBS Adapter" from any P.C shop about £16, just buy a cheap one as they all work about the same any way, then just install the software that should come with it and "Bingo" you are connected. hope this helps you.
  2. theres 802.11a 802.11b and 802.11g....the third one, the one you have listed is backwards compatible. meaning it works with the previous versions**edit...just so you know...all those different kinds are capable of speeds higher than any dsl or cable connection you can get in the US the smallest of which i believe is around 54Mbps....dsl is usually at the most 3Mbps but can go up to 12Mbps and cable usually can do bit more....so its not gonna matter
  3. Ethernet port support 1000/100/10 mbps mostly ..100 mbps..wireless g supports 54 mbps.and wireless n supports 108 mbps but it is little expensive.. go for 802.11g.
  4. It is likely your wireless access point is either an 802.11 a, b or g. Most wireless cards are also 802.11 a, b, or g so you are most likely ok to purchase and install such.
