How can I figure out if the problem is with my modem or wireless card?

Hi, I am still not able to rectify the problem I am having with my wireless network. All of a sudden my computer stopped catching the wireless network and I had to plug the modem directly into my computer. It is not even recognizing other wireless network connections in my area. I have been getting replies from some of you that there could be a problem with my wireless card or my netgear network problem. I have an inspiron 700 M and I think I have an internal wireless card. The computer is not recognising other wireless networks in the area. Is the problem with my wireless card or modem? How can i replace the internal wireless card? Cheers!

  1. It's your wireless card. Think about it. If you cannot connect to your Network or anyone else's, do you think it would be your Network? AND THEIRS? Doubtful.
  2. Just to be sure... The modem is a wireless router... and you did install the CD yeh.... click control panel, wireless link and troubleshoot the hardware... this might be helpful
  3. Hi. Run a diagnostic programme like Fresh Diagnostic, SiSoftware Sandra or Belarc Advisor
  4. uninstall and reinstall the wireless card..thats the one's not working well...thinks about it, if you can connect to the internet having the modem hook up to the pc,,,then theres nothing wrong with the modem..its the wireless card since its also not picking up a signal from other network .. call netgear for further assistance since they will know what the problem is
