How accurate are the websites that claim to be able to show you your own IP address?

I looked up my computer's IP address from the same computer on the same connection about a minute apart. One website told me I had a certain IP address. Another website told me I had a different IP address. How accurate are websites that claim to be able to tell you your IP address?

  1. 100% accurate. You connect to websites, by showing the website your IP address.
  2. Extremely accurate unless they're a hoax You see to get to a website your computer send's it's IP Adress and the website responds by sending info. If you look under the connection tab it'll say "amount sent and received" and sent would be the IP Adresses. These website simply collect this IP Adress and show it to you Looking for a site like this? Google "Whats my ip adress"
  3. I would say 95% of the time they are accurate, but all websites are able to look at ur IP instantly once u press enter on ur url, and itll log showing all the IP #'s visiting the website especially websites like ebay or paysites etc. They can find everythin about ur location with ur IP adres
  4. They are always 100 percent accurate, but I'm sure your wondering why they show up differently on different sites. Likely your service provider connects you with "static ips" meaning they change often.
  5. It is possible that your computer is not assigned a public IP address, but a private ip address. When this is the case, every time you surf the web, your ISP (or your company's firewall if you are doing this in your office), assigns a temporary public IP address to you for that session. This is called NAT. The public IP address assigned may not be the same every time.
  6. i dunno, sometimes your IP adress change all the time. but if you want a more accurate telling of your ip address, <if your PC is running on windows OS> click start on your taskbar, then go to RUN, a window will appear then type in "cmd". then another window will appear which is the command prompt. you type in "ipconfig" then you will be able to see your own ip address together with default gateway etc..
