What would be legal reasons for a site owner to give out an ip address?
Can an owner of a site give out your IP address without a court order and what is needed to get a court order? What do you have to prove has been done?

- Most web sites have a stated privacy policy that protects your identity. Very few companies will release a web site address unless a very serious crime (child porn, murder, etc) has been committed. Talking smack about someone online - not so much going to end up in a warrant. Based on your other question, it sounds like someone is threatening you with something they don't have the power to do. Don't sweat it.
