Is it illegal for someone to post your IP address online for others to see?

My second question is, how would someone find out what my IP address is?

Public Comments

  1. yes it is.
  2. No, its not illegal and your IP Address can be obtained easily in any number of ways. More than likely, they had you visit a website or send an email which they control.
  3. http://whatsmyip.org/ Your IP is known to many people. Everywhere you go on the internet your IP is recorded somewhere.
  4. its not illegal because it is public. the easiest way to find out your i.p. address is to email you or receive email from you. if you have it enabled in your mailbox it will automatically show up. i forget exactly where it is in yahoo but i think under 'options' you can expand the info you receive when you receive and email and along with that is the i.p. address. to find out what the numbers mean..country, state etc. you just need to do a simple web search for 'what do i.p. numbers mean'. you can even find out someone's physical address of where they are accessing their computer...with the right info it takes minutes thats why people should know that no one is every anonymous on the internet...ever.
  5. unless its to help the public.
  6. I really don't think it is actually ILLEGAL yet, even though it is wrong. I could be wrong, but I don't really think our legal system is that up to date with all the computer/high tech problems that are arising. They have always been slow moving.
  7. hell yea
  8. No, it is perfectly legal to distribute IP addresses. If you connect to a server that the person who wants your IP address controls, they can find out that way. That can be as simple as viewing a web page or sending an email. Also, I've seen a few sites that display the IP addresses of visitors who post comments. The fact is that it's impossible to exchange information on the Internet without knowing the IP address of who you're connecting to (on some level, usually out of sight for most users). Good night!
  9. Quote people should know that no one is every anonymous on the internet...ever not necessarily I use the same remove traces software the D.O.D does.if I want nothing found the program sees to it. it's called perfectdisk8 pro and perfectdiskrx. not to mention a rollback option the machine has
  10. No because the adress changes regularly.
