Wireless Router?
Although I am computer literate the whole Wireless Internet is new to me. Currently I have a normal PC which when we want to use the internet (tiscali) we connect the wire running from the phone socket to the Pc. I am considering getting a laptop and would want to use a wireless router. My questions are: Is it easy to set up? Can I just stay with Tiscali ie it doest require a different service Does the wireless router replace the wire we connect the PC to? Could someone use the PC and someone use the laptop at the same time? Thanks in advance. I already have broadband, just have to plug it in the wall which is a pain cos socket and pc are in 2 different rooms Can the PC not be set up to be wireless too?

- you can use pc and laptop at the same time. the only wires are the router to your phone line. it is quite easy to set up. your provider is on the phone with you. you can talk on your phone at the same time.
- My answers would be Is it easy to set up? fairly you may need help from tech support Can I just stay with Tiscali ie it doest require a different service? You can stay with Tiscali Does the wireless router replace the wire we connect the PC to? yes for the wireless PC will still need it for none wireless enabled connection Could someone use the PC and someone use the laptop at the same time? yes
- i am the biggest nonbrain when it comes to computers but you need to get a broadband connection, most broadband conections (i believe) have a built in wireless router. broad band is easy to set up you just plug in the power and connect your broad band to the telephone socket, it provides an adaptor type thing so that you can plug in the router as well as your phone (they can even guide you through which wires go where if you are to lazy or are too intimidated to read the instruction booklet (like me lol). then your computer picks up the wireless connection and you have to type in a password (in my case it was on the back of the router) and then you are all set. you can use your wireless while someone else uses the PC yes. you can even have a laptop party and everyone can use your wireless at the same time as the PC. ask tiscali if they do broadband im sure they must.. and make sure they have a wireless built in (i think most broad bands do but check)
- yessss i have a wireless router go can go all around the house with my laptop but the sad thing to say is the router is a bit hard to set up it took me about 5 hours to set it up because i was new to it too. so if your planning on getting one prepare to spend hours working and setting it up. also if you can use the internet on the laptop and the pc at the same time but the cable still has to still be plugged into the pc but the laptop can go all around the house if you get a good one.......my one is 100m range which costed 89 but a 500m i guessing will cost about 300 and make sure you put a password on the router so people in your neighborhood cant access your internet and use up all your internet downloads but the wireless router dosent replace the wire/cable you connect to the pc Hope i helped ;)
- Yes, it's pretty easy to setup .. it may take longer first time, after that it's a breeze. Yes you can stay with Tiscali, all you're doing is changing the hardware you connect to the Internet with. You can still use the wire, Ethernet cable, to connect from the router to the PC if it's close by, and have only the laptop on wireless. Or have both, the choice is yours. If you decide to make the PC wireless you'll need a wireless PCI card or USB adaptor, same applies to the laptop unless it already has wi-fi built in. Yes, many people can use the router at the same time. All the router does is divide the bandwidth between the connected computers, and that depends if your gaming, downloading or chatting. Also, routers come in 2 "flavours" .. one for Cable Routers for broadband, Virgin etc, and ADSL Routers for BT landlines, or Internet that uses a phone line in the wall.
- Hello, (ANS) OK!! to answer your questions:- No.1) Depends upon what you call easy, some wireless routers almost set themselves up automatically but that only gets you & up and running with the most basic settings (its NOT secure and perhaps not the best condition to leave the router in). Don't just leave the router with the default settings this is not advised. **Get someone who really does know how to set up a wireless router correctly as they are complex devices. Try to get hold of someone with previous experience with wireless routers to set it up for you. No.2) YES! you can remain with your current ISP Tiscarli it shouldn't make any difference. **Bear in mind that the router will still be connected & use broadband over your existing phone line. The wireless aspect is only from the laptop or desktop to the router, then the router accesses the internet using the phone line as before. No.3) YES! thats it exactly, wireless replaces all those trailing wires & cables. No.4) YES! absolutely, thats the whole purpose of having wireless. Hope thats useful?
