Home wireless network and desktop computer?
Do you have to have a desktop for a wireless home network? If I have a laptop and I am wanting it to have wireless Internet, do I have to have a desktop?

- No, a desktop is not required for a wireless network. You will need a router to do that. Just get a wireless router and hook it up to your internet connection and follow the setup instructions that come with the router. You will have a wireless network in no time.
- no desktop necessary
- no. However you may need to use a stadard Cat5-e patch cable to access your router setups.
- No, you do not need a desktop, but you will need to hardwire the laptop to the wireless router for the initial configuration. Once the router is properly configured (5 min or so), you can get rid of the cable and enjoy the freedom of being wireless.
- Not at all. You will be able to use your laptop freely with the router's wifi connection. You will need to use an ethernet cable at first for the configuration, but will not need after it's setup. The only thing you should do is make sure your connection is secure. There will be a 10 digit hexidecimal number on the bottom of the router. When your laptop searches for wireless connections, as long as you're plugged in, it will identify the router. Click on this connection, and it should ask you to enter a passcode. Type the number in, and you're golden. No desktop needed.
