Wireless Router?

I plan to purchase a wireless router soon but I have some questions. I plan to play PS3 and PSP online. Does the wireless router cost monthly to operate even though PS3 and PSP online is free? Also, I have DSL right now, will a wireless router interfere with my DSL? One last thing, what is a reasonable prices for a wireless router? I forgot to add this. If my PS3 is upstairs and the wireless router is downstairs, will my PS3 pick up 100% of the signal? Mike - Thanks. I'll ask in the Playstation section if PS3's have wireless receptors built in.

  1. You will hook your dsl to your wireless router. This will allow everything to go to the internet through your router. It is a one time purchase and then its yours. I don't know how much they run at the moment. Good luck getting everything online.
  2. Hi. Take a look at the Linksys WRT54G series, usually can be found for about $50. No monthly fee. If you use just DSL then your speed will not improve but should also not interfere.
  3. There are no monthly fees to operate a wireless router. It won't interfere with your DSL, but you have to plug it into your DSL. They cost around $50-$70. See, what you do is you plug your DSL into the router, and then it connects to your PC and PS3 wirelessly. The important thing to remember is that you need a wireless receptor thing connected to your PC or PS3 to receive the DSL signal from the router, that card can run you about $20. I'm not sure, some laptops have the wireless card built-in, but I don't know if your computer does or not. And I have no idea if the PS3 has that built-in or not. It depends on how far away upstairs and downstairs is for you, and it depends on how strong the router is. I think you should be fine.
