Wireless router?

I have two PC's, I used a really long wire from the router to connect it to the second PC in another room but recently it stopped working. I don't know if it's the wire or the router card in the second PC but I think it's time to just get a wireless router. If you can answer any of these questions that would be great: 1.) Does everything come with the box? Or do I need a wireless router card to put in the second pc as well? 2.) Is the speed slower using a wireless router? 3.) Do I need to set up a password to keep neighbors from leeching off it? -Thanks in advance.

  1. 1) the router comes in the box-- which means you have to buy the wireless adapters seperate 2) No just have a router that has higher capacity than you isp 3)yes, the installation booklet will help you with WEP to have a password, I suggest a d-link though
  2. If you plan to go wireless, it's always best to encrypt or password protect your network. If you go wireless, go Draft N!! http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8669906&type=product&id=1196470792145 You will need this adapter for your desktop. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8564378&type=product&id=1188561736125
  3. 1) When you purchase a router, it will come with everything you need to get your network set up, but your PC will need a wireless card in order to receive the wireless signal from your router. Some PCs have wireless capability built into them, but most do not. 2) The speed using a wireless router is the same as a wired connection, but some wireless routers are better than others. A wireless-N router has a stronger output signal than a wireless-G router, so you're less likely to have connection issues. 3) When you purchase a router, it will come with software to set up and configure your network to be secure, with an encryption key, so your neighbors can't hijack your wireless signal.
  4. 1. everything comes in a box, i'm ordering one, its wireless 2. the speed is better 3. you have to set up a password get a wireless rowder, may i suggest one that saves everything on it so if ur computer crashes you will have everything on it, thats the one that i'm getting but i have a mac so i don't know about pc's check online! i have a pc but i'm a mac expert. please answer my question !!!!!! in my questions, its about the sidekick LX
  5. Everything you'll need to transmit your internet signal will be in the box, you'll still need a receiver card/USB stick for the computer you don't have hardwired to your modem/router. As far as the speed, internet speed is kind of like water pressure, if you're using both computers at the same time, you may notice some slowdown, but it's unlikely to be significant enough to make a major difference in your online experience from either computer. As far as security, most routers come with security software already in them and have a code printed on them that you'll need to set up the wireless receiver for the other computer. Some antivirus/antispyware programs also have security for wireless in them as well. I just have to buy a wireless card for my computer and most everyone I talked to said that Linksys equipment was among the best.
