  1. You have to enable it. The default setting in the wireless router is to have the wireless OFF. You'll need to go into the settings and turn it on, and please, please, please, put in some kind of encryption or password.
  2. cool
  3. Your battery must be low of your laptop, is your router D-LINK thats the best one. yOU LAPTOP HAS BAD INTERNET aol is not good connecting internet!!
  4. you should get into your routers firmware (usually through internet browser by typing the IP address of the router)... find the "wireless" settings, make sure the wireless radio is turned on and it's set to broadcast the SSID. then try re-scanning with your laptop and it should show up.
  5. maybe its firewalled or the signal cant reach were ur laptop is at do you have the wireless card for your laptop
  6. how old is your laptop? because if its old it probably cant receive it
  7. Have you tried calling Netgear phone support? Even before that, some computers don't just "Pickup" the wireless signal, have you actually manually set it up on your computer?
  8. I agree with the previous answer AND please use the MAC filter.
  9. You haven't set it up correctly. Or the router is broken. most likely you should read the instructions and set it up properly. It's not that difficult. Impossible to say why without actually being there. Also make sure your laptop is setup to receive. sometimes there is a WLAN on/off switch.
  10. there might be some interference from other electronic signals, try moving the router at least 10 feet away from any other electrical devices, and put it as high up off the ground as possible. As far as my experience with netfear routers, they arent very good. The laptop might also be too far away. You might want to try a different router.
  11. Go into setup and enable the wireless interface. If the modem/router was supplied by AOL then call their help desk and they can walk you through it. -TCW
  12. ok i will suggest you to , reset ur router. the reset button might be on the back of ur router , i guess. and then try it, if then it does not work then reinstall the router driver or u may check the speed and range of ur router , because it also depends on the range of router. by the way do what i said have a good day :)
  13. Seems off to me, especially since it is from AOL. No offense, but since AOL tends to cater to non-savvy computer users, they probably turn it off by default to protect them. Wireless routers use radio signals, which means if you got a receiver you can pick them up. This is why you should encrypt them with a password. Also, you might not get great reception in some areas (just like your FM station) depending on location of the source and receiver and building materials.
  14. Login to the router control panel (I guess you'll have to plug your laptop in with an ethernet cable for now) by opening your internet browser and typing 192.168.0.1 into the address bar and hitting enter. It'll ask you for a login. The default login should be found in the manual (usually admin/password, or [blank]/admin, or similar - here's a big list of default router passwords: http://dopeman.org/default_passwords.html). Depending on the exact model of wireless router, the control panel should have a "Wireless" section where you should be able to enable the wireless capability. If the wireless is already enabled, make sure that the router is not hiding the SSID (the 'name' of the wireless network). But since the wireless light on the router isn't lit, the wireless is probably disabled rather than hidden. Once you've changed the settings so the wireless is activated, save your settings and try to re-connect via wireless. If it still isn't working, contact Netgear via their technical support line, and if you're still having no joy, get in touch with the store that sold you the router, who may be able to offer you a replacement if it's faulty. Once you've managed to get connected, it's always a good idea to set up a password so your wireless network is secure - WPA encryption is much stronger than WEP.
  15. You have to enable your wireless card on your laptop. Please see your manual on how to do it on your laptop. You have also have the wireless setting on the router enabled. Enjoy!!!!
