- Microsoft has a nice tutorial with pictures. here is the site http://www.microsoft.com/athome/moredone/wirelesssetup.mspx
- First of all you will need a wireless card on every computer you want to connect to the router. One of these computers will need to be connected via Cat5 cabling, at least for the initial setup. D-Link is fairly good at instructions on how to set the system up. Follow the instructions on the installation CD. You must be skiping one step somewhere. One problem comes in if all computers do not have the same OS, specially Vista is a pain in the rump to set up with XP or 2K systems on the same net. You can go to www.microsoft.com for compatibility data on your router/computer systems and to learn about setting up a local network.
- Your destop needs a wireless card or adapter. You can get a USB Wireless adapter for $30. For the setup of the wireless router connect the : Modem to the router then connect : The PC to the router via (CAT5 cord) Run the the wireless CD. It will bring you to a security configuration Make sure to type of WEP code WPA code and remember that password as well as the user name. Now disconnect your PC. Reboot the PC and enable the wireless card if it is not done. Map the network and connect to your network(it will show the name of your router or the name you had assigned to it. On the contrary of what the lady said Vista or XP is not a pain to have a wireless connection working. I advise her to try to connect using linux then I will agree with her LOL. Good luck.
