how can I setup a LAN home for files sharing with my desktop and laptop?

how can I setup a LAN home for files sharing with my desktop and laptop? My equipment are: Desktop Computer with Window XP Professional physically connects to a wireless router (Desktop can go to internet via this router and then "Unwired" modem) Laptop with Window XP Home with wireless feature (already wireless connect to wireless router to Internet) A printer My question is: how can I set up a home LAN so these two computers can see each other and share files? There is two network setup wizard "Network Setup Wizard" and "Wireless Network setup wizard", which one to use or both? How can my laptop print files to the printer?

  1. You can use both wizards depending on the connectivity you wish to preserve. For example if you want only a wireless local area network then use the Wireless Network Setup Wizard. To share your files and printers, you'll need to establish share permissions on them. 2. Well if you setup a wireless LAN eg.from Main Computer to laptop then use the wireless Wizard enableing file and printer sharing is not very much liked under Xp but I've done so go ahead. Take care
  3. make sure the computers are in the same ip range and subnet share the printer from the desktop since its xp pro, open gpedit.msc computer config windows settigns security settings local policies security options disable limit local account use of blanl passowrd and set the sharing and security model to classic disable the firewall too. ping the desktop computer usings its name or ip from the laptop if successful, you can add the printer to your laptop and print from it. cheers !!!1
