What are the options for buying a wireless pc card for my laptop?

I would like to be able to connect online anytime I want from anywhere I am. In most places a connection is available but soemtimes there is no wireless network in the area. I know I can purchase a wireless card for my laptop that will connect with a mobile phone provider to gain internet access. My main question is does anyone offer a prepaid wireless card or a pay as you go for a reasonable price? I wouldnt use it unless I had to so I dont see buying one with a monthly subscription etc. Or are there any alternatives to get online at all times besides this wireless card. Thank you.

  1. At this time, it's usually the wireless cell phone companies that offer this and there is no pay as you go that I know of. Let me know if you do find out if there is one.
  2. Linksys devices are best wpc54G
  3. As far as I know, there is no "pay as you go" wireless (cell/mobile) service available at the present... Plus...Some providers require that you also have a cell phone account w/ them...Connection speeds can vary depending on where you are in relation to the closest tower....You MUST be connected to the providers SPECIFIC network (read: NO ROAMING)...May not work in some areas (Sprint only has like 50 towers in the WHOLE state of Montana)...Probably won't work in Canada or Mexico...Can be expensive (I seem to remember a friend saying plans start at $60usd/mo over and above the cost of the cell phone plan)...Possible limits on recieved data (meaning if you go over the data limit, you'll prolly pays some high rate per meg in overages) Oh yeah...Then there's always my very favorite..... REQUIRES A 2 YEAR CONTRACT to start up
