Does the wireless router have to match the pc card?

i have a 2wire and i want to buy a wireless pc card for my laptop do they both need to be the same brand or can it be a different brand?

2. Brand does not matter. Here are the things that do matter. if the card is 802.11.g, you will need a router that is 802.11.g. If your router is 802.11.b you need a 802.11.b router. (most G routers are B as well). G is faster then B
3. it can be a different brand that both run on the same standers 802.11 a/b/g and the newest is n, as long as the router supports the letter then it will work
