Do I need a wireless PC Card?

I have an HP laptop with 802.11b/g... I'm able to connect in certain buildings for free. My question is do I need a pc card to be able to connect anywhere I would like? I travel a lot and would like to access the internet, do I need to get a wireless provider or something else?

  1. It depends on where you stay. Most hotels have broadband, if not free, cheap. You can go to Starbucks just about anywhere and they have it. If you get a wireless broadband through a wireless phone company, make sure they guarantee that it will work in the places you are going.
  2. you could get a 3g card to access the web from a cell phone company- t-mobile uk is £7.50pm for a capped wireless broadband (they roll back to gprs when no umts is available, ie dial-up speed) or use a 3g phone as a modem using bluetooth or just piggy back on other networks using you built in wifi
  3. your laptop allows you to connect to any unsecured network. but to answer your question you would need a card from a cell phone outfit to be able to connect even without being by a network. this would be like the laptop version of dial-up but with burst cache speeds - normally 144 vs 56 dial-up.
