Wireless Router?

I have both a laptop and a desktop and ethernet internet from at&t yahoo dsl. To make my internet wireless, I bought this ethernet broadband router from bestbuy http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7650473&st=d-link&type=product&id=1134699413401 How do I make it to where I can scan for internet connections and find my own internet so I can have it for both computers? (They both have wireless cards) Also, is this even the right router for what I want? This is what it says it does: Enjoy high-speed access and advanced security with this router that lets you share your broadband connection with up to 4 computers.   5. That router will only support up to 4 WIRED connections (not wireless). I own this router http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5250774&st=linksys&type=product&id=1051384663529 and it seems to work well wirelessly for me. Once you plug it in and connect it to your Internet connection (usually your modem) it should start broadcasting the signal right away and it will appear when you scan for internet connections. You may want to setup a WEP key so that others cannot use your connection as well.
  6. if you are looking for wireless ethernet, then this is the wrong router. you have a wired router, which only connects computers togeather using the wired rj45 port. a wireless router will have antennas attached to the box, and will also have wired ports. wifi is a radio transmission. then the next thing is do your laptop and desktop have wireless capable connections, if not you will have to buy the proper card, or usb adapter to work with your new wireless router.
  7. Well my friend. Unfortunately you bought the wrong router. The one that you bought is a router not a wireless router. So take it back and exchange it for a wireless router. Get a linksys wireless router they are some of the best ones. Good luck man.
  8. This router is not a wireless router so you can't set up a wireless connection. Make sure when you get one its a "Wireless Access Point Router" instead of just a router.
  9. You have to set up your wireless internet first (which will be accessible to any number of computers, the 4 computers applies to wired connections). The router should have come with a CD. Put the CD in your computer (either one) it will walk you through step by step. It will even tell you when to plug in the router and where. Name the wireless something you will be able to remember. Once it's all said and done, give it a few moments. Then in the lower right hand corner of the screen, there will be two computer monitors. One is for wireless connections and one is for wired connections. Double click on the one for wireless connections, click "View wireless networks" and then click "refresh." You may have to refresh the list a few times for your wireless network to show up. Once it appears, click on it and your computer will connect to it.

Begin by writing down the computer name of each computer - START - CONTROL PANEL - SYSTEM. Assign each computer a different Computer Name. ALL computers must belong to the SAME Work Group, Complete this naming process before you start to create your network! You must follow your ROUTER USER GUIDE! This forum cannot help you because they have different ROUTERS, and the setup process most likely different for the different routers. I hope you are using the same manufacturers wireless PC network card! Sometimes there can be issues, too, if your ROUTER is a Wireless G, all PC wireless cards have to be WIRELESS G compatible or it will not work!
