Wireless router?

I bought a new laptop and it has the wireless card in it, i would like to hook it up to wireless internet. My desktop right now is on a regular cable modem. If i would buy a wireless router do you just plug the cable into the back of it? And will i still be able to run both computers, I don't think the desktop has the wireless internet card. Thanks

  1. it would run both computer but i wouldn't recommend it i had wireless internet and wired is much faster
  2. You would remove the cable that leads from the modem to computer. You would place the cable into the back of the router. Once the router is running the wireless card in the laptop will usually pick up the signal automatically. Then the computers will share the internet. One will be wired to the router and one will be wireless. Your best bet is to get a router with a built in modem. They are usually faster and there is less wiring. I do recommend this, the speed of the connection is usually about the same. My wifes wireless laptop actually does things faster then my desktop computer that is wired, I think this is because my computer is 2 years older then hers.
