  1. A wireless router would enable you to access it without a cable to your computer, assuming you have a wifi card in your computer. They both have similar speeds.
  2. it will work as long as it has connections on the back for a wired connection, most have four, a wireless router enables computers that have wireless connections to connect to the network without a wire, If you don't have any wireless devices then wireless is not needed, but it will still work
  3. Yes you can use a wireless router. The difference is that a wireless router emits wireless internet and a regular router doesnt. Wireless routers do not need to be wired to another computer as long as it has a wireless network card. Most wireless routers still have ethernet jacks in case the computer doesnt have a wireless network card. So the answers yes. Look into getting a linksys or d-link router, both are quality brands.
  4. Not a great deal of difference-- a wireless router does everything that a regular router does, with one extra thing... it allows you to connect to your router wirelessly, using one of a few different standards... 801.11(a), (b), (g) and (n)... B and G are in my experience more common, G is faster than B, and N is the big new superfast wireless connection... basically if you have a laptop with a wireless card, then you would be able to browse the internet and get files off your network without being plugged in. If you're not going to use the wireless feature then I wouldn't bother... they cost more, and again, in my experience, they tend to break down more quickly. But if you're going to use it then they're great. The biggest problem with wireless internet is security, but routers now have pretty good encryption... you've just got to know how to set it up.
