Wireless router?!?
Would you say this is a good wireless router? http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WRT54G-Wireless-G-Router/dp/B00007KDVI/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-5593433-7018562?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1186343592&sr=8-1 Also I still have a couple questions, how long is the range, and how fast will my wireless internet be with this router? 10 points for best answer!

- approx 300 ft range max (thats without walls, buildings, etc) and 54mbps
- 54 Mbps will be the maximum speed. Range.. if you live in a 1-story home, that'll be fine, if you live in a 2 stories you might need an extender. Its a wireless G router so you need to have a wireless G adapter as well in your system/laptop to take advantage of the 54 Mbps.
- I have this very same router, and let me just say it is the best i've owned =) I have my PS3 online 24/7 lag free, wireless, 3 laptops and 2 desktop computers, and i have very little lag, and often 2 of the computers(my sisters) are on limewire downloading music and videos and viruses and spyware :P It has great range, i often go outside in my shed and play games online where its peace and quiet :D. Agian, i would highly suggest this router, its got great range on it, only problems is if you're playing a game, you need to open specific ports, disable the firewall, if its a console you have to enable the DMZ, to get to the router page just type its IP, when you get it just look at the network details, type the IP in as a web address with no www. and no .com and the password is admin, blank username(thats standard for all linksys routers) and go to the security, and its pretty much straight forward from there :)
- As a computer tech I had to install this wireless router a few times before at different clients houses, it's inexpressive and fairly easy to setup, but the easy security option doesn't work because is not easy. It has a good range. It has a standard speed of a 802.11g which is 54mbps (about 8-10mbps in real life). Cons are: -No UPNP (Universal Plug aNd Play) (meaning you have to open ports your self for everything outside internet browsing) if you do gaming, if you have equipment like TiVo or Sling or simple AIM, MSN, YAHOO, messaging with video and audio you are stuck poking around until the thing works, -sometimes it never will-. -DSL uses network sign in or loggin also call PPPoE. If you have this type of network be prepared because while this router is supposed to handle the loggin it is not very efficent and it fails often, you'll end up having to unplug and plug your router very often. -The wireless security button is supposed to be an easy feature, I am a technician and I haven't figure it out yet. (Joke) It can be difficult to setup if you don't have a linksys as a client wireless. Other wise the secure wireless can be setup manually fairly easy. -The wireless range is very good actually, so good I can see my neighbor's unsecured wireless for blocks (if you consider that a good thing, in my opinion I want a good wireless at home but not all over the neighborhood). I would recommend different brands for a low budged, like Netgear or Dlink, look for special at your local computer store but don't buy the old versions. They are more reliable and once you activate UPNP you'll never have to worry about something not working because it has been blocked. They won't fail at loggin you in the DSL network and they have wizards that will guide you at creating secure networks. Anyway that is my personal experience with this specific wireless router.
- It depends on if you want something simple for home networking. Linksys is more of what you will find in a business, belkin is more of what you will find in simple home wireless networking, step by step instruction for setup and use.
