Home Wireless Network Home Wireless Network

Hi. How do I setup wireless at home? Is it from my broadband connection?

Can someone help me plz. For the last year or so, I have been using a wireless network for surfing from my laptop. Recently it doesn't work although the probider who let people use it has not put a password on it. Can some one tell me how to set my own wireless or why its not workin any more? Thanks If i get a router, where does the signal come from? Do I have to pay any additional monthly payment to anyone?

  1. Its not working because its not your wireless connection and the person probably realised their connection was being used-therefore putting a password on it. You need to get a wireless router-they cost £50+ (pc world has many if your in the UK) and you will have instructions with it telling you how set it up.
  2. Wireless network can be set up using wireless router.
  3. You'll simply need to get your own wireless router. They don't cost too much these days.
  4. Home networking is easy enough. Check if your neighbors signal is now too weak to receive a connection (they may have moved it). Move your laptop around the rooms of your apartment to see if the signal improves anywhere. Remember what you are getting is free, so as a result, it's not always perfect and within your control.
  5. you should get your own there only cheap now like £50-£80, and the signal strength will be much better and your'll be able to use it all the time, just buy on and followin instructions carefully, easy peasy but member to put a password on it so noone can use your router!!!
  6. Get a router, connect it up and surffffffffffff.
  7. Well, basic question, do you have a DSL/ADSL connection? If yes, then you need to purchase a router, and configure it. The configuration is basically simple and can be done by following the instructions provided with the device. Basically you would need to put a Username and Password for the connection (if provided by the ISP), the type of connection (as in PPPoA,PPPoE, RFC Bridged etc.) and also a wireless security password and network name, so that others do not take advantage of your wireless network. Once done you can seemlessly surf on your network. Many good routers are available in the market, but my personal choice would be Linksys. As for your query, the user who owned the network might have put a password or implemented a personal firewall (McAfee), so that others might not surf at his expense.
