How do I setup wireless home network using XP?

I have a desktop with cable and a wireless router. How do I make my laptop see my desktop? Iam running XP on both. I can see my laptop from my desktop but I can not see my desktop from my laptop. My router does not have a USB port. I have a Netgear router. Thanks!!! I did run the network wizard.

  1. run the network setup wizzard
  2. if its a a secure network you have not provided the ip adress of desktop to the laptpop
  3. Read the directions that came with the Router... They are usually extremely detailed. It is cheaper for them to explain the process in writing, in an easy way to understand... rather than have you call their tech support and use up the time of their paid employees.
  4. 1. Right-click My Computer 2. Click Properties. 3. Click Computer Name. 4. Click Change... 5. Under Member of, Click Workgroup. 6. Type any name of your choise for the Workgroup. 7. Click OK. Do the same on both Desktop and Laptop and you should see both of their shared folders.
  5. Hi FIrst be sure your sharing sitting is working well , go to LOCAL AREA CONNECTION at the bottom right of the screen and click on it and see the properties , second . be sure that you have an IB number for the labtop have a nice day oceanosoft group owner
  6. Make sure you run network setup wizard on BOTH computers. Then, if you still can't access the desktop with the laptop, check two things. First, check your firewall, be it windows or a third-party firewall, to make sure that file sharing is enabled. If this is not the problem, make sure that NetBios is turned on. Follow this link to Microsoft help page for directions: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318030
  7. Well if all the above fails. Check the ip address on your windows xp (ipconfig /all) Then from your laptop open a exlporer windows. In the address field type "\\<ip address>". You should then see whatever folders you have enabled sharing on on your desktop.
