HELP! problem with home wireless network!?

First off, my home wireless network was working great then the signal kept going in and out on my laptop. So I tried messing around with the network wizard and stuff on the main computer. I think I may have set up an extra unsecure wireless network because on my laptop its picking that up. MY QUESTION IS: how do I delete that unsecure network to prevent from others getting into it???? and what do you think is causing the signal to go in and out and how can I fix that?????? please use common words, im not very computer savy.

  1. If you are having trouble gettign a signal than either move closer to the access point ( your wireless router), or extend the access point closer to were your laptop is. Also make sure everything is plugged in all the way. I had problems like that and i extended my accesspoint closer to my computer and know i have a great connection. Hope this helps.
  2. Lol ive had the same problem and it really pissed me off since my xbox, wii, and 3 laptops are hooked up wireless and it would quit in the middle something. Ok to answer question 1 to delete the unsecure ner work u can do from the computer and go to the connection options(u can find that like near were the time is it should be a symbol of a computer giving out a wave.) just right click and that option should be there, and just so if u do change it the password will be the wep key which is on the router itself so dont worry.(ill help more with this if u still cant find it) Now Question 2: When i got on the phone with the people who provide my internet(at&t) and they said my signal COULD be going if it was next to other electronics(TV's, dvd players, Phones) and my router was next to a 50 inch plasma tv, a Wii(which gives off signal that messed it up), 2 dvd players, and a cable box) so yeah my shit went out a lot LOL. So get it away from other electronics(if they are real close)(o keep your router away from cordless phone recievers) Ok part 2 of question 2: You might hve it set on a low signal and you can change using the computer but u should have someone who provides your internet on the phone while u do it. Cuz thats what i did i moved my router into a different room, had the people walk me through and increase my signal, and my wireless has not gone out since July 2007
  3. loginto the router change the wirless channel to a different channel, this will help with the signal. use WEP for security on wirless, when you connect it will ask for a password
  4. For question number one. When your laptop connects with the network it will say what your ip address is (example: 123.456.789.123) the first 6 numbers are your network. Type the first 6 numbers with the dot in the middle like in the example then type .1.1 after the first 6 numbers like 123.456.1.1. Now type the first 6 numbers then the .1.1 in the address bar on your web browser(MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE THE DOTS) and type the user name and password if you have not changed the password it should be admin. Once your in change the channel to a higher one witch will make the signal go farther. And for the second question almost all wireless routers can't have two networks at once so you might just be picking up the neighbors wireless because they normally have unsecured networks. So just go to wireless settings and choose wep encryption. The next time you connect to the network you will be ask for the key just put in the the key you choose when did the encryption.
