When you buy a router to connect to Virgin media wirelessly do you need to buy a wireless card for your PC.?
I have a laptop that I want to connect to the internet. I already have Broadband (Virgin Media) on my pc. I want to buy a router to share the connection but I cant understand if i need to buy a wireless card for my pc and if not - Why not? it just doesnt make sence because I would have no Internet going to my pc. I know all this sounds really confusing but any answers will help. Thanks.

- Get your self a wireless modem, (router) and get a dongle stick for PC, just install and plug into usb port on PC, and search for connection, and there you go, you will have wireless.....or you can you use card, but i have dongle stick in mine and works a treat , i never have probs with my wireless network, i run laptop and PC of it.... Go to Curry's somewhere like that you need to get belkin one , think that's the only one works with virgin BB... hope it helps mate and you get sorted..
- YOU WILL NEED AN ETHERNET CARD FITTING ,IF I UNDERSTAND YOU CORRECTLY.
- Not sure about laptops but... I have a desk top and Virgin broadband which terminates in a modem ... I did not want cables running the length of my lounge so I bought a router designed to work with cable(they are different to BT ones)/ this included a USB adaptor which plugs into the PC tower. The router is wire connected to the modem and both plugged into the mains. In this state once configured and working my sons laptop would work equally well from this set up . For security reasons we encrypted the wireless signal, after which only the PC could access the network. the laptop was unable to .. Does any of this help?
- if you want a pc and laptop to connect to the internet - you have few choices if the router you have now has 2 or more ethernet ports you can connect both computers with an ethernet cable each - if the pc is sitting beside where the router will be plaaced (seeing you have internet already ) keeping it cabled is fine if the laptop has a wireless card in it already you can connect that wirelessly once you have bought the new router -if the virgin media bb is the cable make sure you get a router for cable the router gets connected to the virgin media router you have already with an ethernet cable .when setting up a new router you need to connect with a cable to pc and run set cd to let the new router know your internet supplier and to set up your wireless network you make a network name up and you make up the wireless key so when you find the wireless network you type it in its the password to get on keeping you secure. if pc doesnt have wireless card and you want to move it into another room then buy a wireless adapter but if its ok the way you have now and can be cabled there is no need.
- I'm assuming, that you're not going to be moving your main PC and just want to access wirelessly using your laptop. Basically, you'll need to connect your cable modem to the router, then the router to the main PC. This is usually done using Ethernet cables, so you may need to get an Ethernet card for your main PC. If your laptop isn't Wi-Fi enabled, you'll need either a pcmcia wireless adaptor card or a USB dongle to wirelessly connect the laptop to the router.
