can a blackberry with wifi replace a wireless pc card?

My boss is planning on getting a BlackBerry 8820 World Edition - can she use this in conjunction with her laptop for a wireless connection instead of getting a wireless card? Sorry - she is getting the 8830 through Verizon (and she does already have a cell account through them).

  1. Yes, she can definitely connect with either of the phones. Through Verizon, you will need to add the Broadband Access Connect plan to the Blackberry line. This will allow her to connect the Blackberry to her laptop via USB and then route the internet connection through the Blackberry. I would presume she'll be getting a Nationwide coverage Unlimited Data Plan, so the Broadband Access Connect feature will be $30 in addition to her voice and data plans. This will provide 5GB of data transfer through the Blackberry to the PC and the overage fee is $0.49 per MB. This is better than their wireless card plan which cuts off the plan when you exceed 5GB due to "excessive usage". If she is going to be traveling internationally, there will be additional roaming fees for the data usage, even under the 5GB base allowance. Due to this, it would be wise to evaluate these fees before she travels. Regards, Larry
