what do i need in order to setup a home wireless network? i am trying to set up a wireless network at home for me and my brothers and sisters so that when we are in our rooms on our laptops we can still message each other, help each other with homework, and send music and video to each other. This is NOT for internet. mom doesn't let us have it b/c she says it will side track our studies. but every solution for wireless home networks that i have seen concerns an internet connection. it needs to work in a pretty big house on three floors so i don't think just creating an ad hoc network between laptops would be suitable. is all we need a powerful wireless router? can it be used to just communicate between laptops? thanks for any info!!

Wireless home network setup? I have two desktop computers (both on WinXP-Pro SP2), and both are on Broadband using the same connection. Computer#1 is connected to a DLink DI-524 wireless router via ethernet, which in-turn is connected to a DLink DSL-502T single-user adsl modem. Computer#2 is connected to the DI-524 via a DLink DWL-G122 wireless usb adapter. As I say, both computers can get online at the same time, but I am having great trouble getting the two computers to talk to each other. Basically I use both computers to do the same job, and only my current location dictates what computer I use at the time. However, currently I have to transfer files between the two via a usb flash-drive. Surely I must be able to get these two computers to talk to each other wirelessly so that I can utilise the files I want to use ... regardless of which computer I'm using at the time (nb both computers are always on). Can someone give me some pointers to getting my wireless home network setup?

There are also 2 game systems (WII and PS3) that connect wirelessly to the router. All of the computers can connect to security enabled internet connection (sample name: INTERNET). I am trying to figure out how I can create a network to share files between computers. I have tried running network setup wizard and wireless network setup wizard using USB or manual setup other computers. I have tried this starting from the desktop and then I tried starting from a laptop. Could someone help me, because when I do it, it doesn't recognize the other computers for me to share files. What comp do I need to run the wizard on first. Do i use the same name as when I set up the router (INTERNET), I cannot figure it out. P.S. I am not asking how to share files I know to go to properties and share folder or files. All of the computers including laptops can connect to the internet to browse the web but they dont appear to be connected.

Home wireless network? Hi there, I have a security enabled wireless network setup at home. I have a desktop (Vista) and a laptop (XP SP2) connected to it, both with a wireless card. The laptop is usually connected to my printer with a USB cable. My questions are: 1. How can I set both computers up so that one can see the other (and vica versa)? They are on the same wireless network, so I assume this can be done. Could this also mean that I could play my music files located on my laptop - on my other computer over the wireless network? 2. Could I also be printing from my desktop over the wireless network through my laptop (connected to the printer)? That would be REALLY nice! Thanks for any pointer! I appreciate your help! Gyula

Why can I connect my laptop to the internet via my home network but CANNOT share files and printer ? My setup is as follows: a main PC with printer and a BT Home Hub, another desktop upstairs and a laptop. All 3 can use the internet no problem, and until recently could also do file & printer sharing. I then upgraded the HDD in the main PC as the old one was full, but now cannot activate sharing. The old HDD is still connected, if I change the settings so it reverts to the master boot drive then the sharing still works. But I want the new HDD to be the master boot drive. No matter how many times I run the "Wireless network setup wizard", and run around the house from PC to PC with the USB memory key allegedly containing the new settings, I still cannot share anything. What am I doing wrong ? Thanks

Wireless home networking issues with 3 computers (2 laptops) (1 desktop). Help? Hi, I have 3 computers in the house. The desktop is a Compaq and the 2 other laptops are Dells. Currently, 2 computers are in the wireless network, one laptop and the desktop, as I can share files and the printer between the 2. The other laptop is supposedly in the network, but I can't access the files from the other 2 computers. All of the computers are in the same workgroup under the same name. I have ran network setup wizard and wireless networking wizard countless of times but to no avail. Sharing files is enabled on all computers and all run on Windows XP Home with SP2. Windows firewall allows file and printer sharing on all of them. I don't know what to do now. Any new suggestions would be awesomeness. Thanks!

Home network setup: from one router (4lans) to more? hi, please share with me your knowledge. I currently have a modem/router + wireless integrated in my home. I have four computers using the four Lans and at least four clients using the wireless connection. This setup is not optimal, for example : When many wireless clients are connected the Lans file transfer slow down heavily. This works the other way aroundm when transfering files locally the wireless clients' Internet access becomes very slow. In addition i need more than four Lans ports now. I think i need to separate some of the functions of my router. But i don't know a)what is optimal b)What is a recommended setup. For example i want to try to have 1)Adsl modem +an external router 8 ports (connected into it)+a wireless router (connected into the Lan router. Would that work ? I've always thought that two routers would not be able to manage IPs and that for example my wireless clients would not then be able to see the Lans shared drives anymore. Let me know your thoughts

HP C5180 Printer, ethernet connection and wireless network? Just bought the above named printer and it has an Ethernet port. I have a wireless network setup at home. Both my main PC and Laptop connect wirelessly to the internet via my: Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Firewall Router with 4-port 10/100 switch The instruction on my printer manual tells how to connect the printer to a 'router, switch, or hub' with a Ethernet cable. Can I make a physical connection between my Netgear Router and my printer using the Ethernet cable and therefore my PC and laptop then connect wirelessly to the router that then communicates with my printer? Could someone explain this to me I'm quite confused.

Wireless laptop shows home network pcs and then drops them? Used to be able to access my home network pcs and shared files but recently it shows the other pcs on the network for just a few seconds and then they disappear. I can access internet still so wireless is working. I tried adding to the home network again but the laptop still does not see the pcs. The other pcs see the laptop. Any ideas? The only recent major change to my setup was a wireless printer a few weeks ago. Thanks for any assistance.
