Wireless card for laptop with windows 98. Can I get an updated card that will work with an old router? I have an old wireless Dell Router model 1184 manufactured in January 2003, with the wireless card that I use in my laptop, using windows 98. I have found that my card does not pick up the signal in some hotels or other public places, where I see others are on the internet with not problem. I have been told there are newer routers that will not work with my card. Can I get a new card that will work with the newer routers and still use the card with my old router. Is programing involved to use the new card? If there is no problem to update, please tell me specifically what to buy.

What are the options for buying a wireless pc card for my laptop? I would like to be able to connect online anytime I want from anywhere I am. In most places a connection is available but soemtimes there is no wireless network in the area. I know I can purchase a wireless card for my laptop that will connect with a mobile phone provider to gain internet access. My main question is does anyone offer a prepaid wireless card or a pay as you go for a reasonable price? I wouldnt use it unless I had to so I dont see buying one with a monthly subscription etc. Or are there any alternatives to get online at all times besides this wireless card. Thank you.

How to go about installing a wireless card? I have a PC. I have a DSL modem that is wireless. I currently drag my phone line across the room to access the internet. See the problem? :) Do I need wireless card? How expensive is a wireless card? Is it easy to install? Help!
How do you take a wireless card out of a laptop? I'll be more specific if it helps: The PC is a Dell inspiron 1150. The card is a Dell Wireless WLAN 1350 WLAN mini-PCA card. It's the card that came with the computer. I'm aware that you have to open the computer, but since I don't know how to do that either, include the steps for this in the answer if possible. Also, I would like to install the card into another computer (A Dell desktop) so if you also know how to do that (wow, you'd have to be pretty smart to answer this question in full) then that would be a great help. Thanks.
How can I figure out if the problem is with my modem or wireless card? Hi, I am still not able to rectify the problem I am having with my wireless network. All of a sudden my computer stopped catching the wireless network and I had to plug the modem directly into my computer. It is not even recognizing other wireless network connections in my area. I have been getting replies from some of you that there could be a problem with my wireless card or my netgear network problem. I have an inspiron 700 M and I think I have an internal wireless card. The computer is not recognising other wireless networks in the area. Is the problem with my wireless card or modem? How can i replace the internal wireless card? Cheers!
Can you use a wireless bridge to connect direct to a wireless card? Im setting up a network and want to connect a server to the internet. Both the server and modem are in seperate rooms, a fair distance apart. I do not want to use messy ethernet cables running between the rooms so I am considering using a wireless bridge from the modem which will connect to the wireless PCI card on the Server. Will I need to use two wireless bridges between the server and modem or will I be ok just using the wireless card? I know I could use a wireless router but I want to use the server to route to the rest of the network so I want all traffic to pass through the server. The rest of the network will also use wireless bridges to connect to the server. Will my network work like this?

I want to get a wireless card for my laptop. Where do I start? I will be doing some traveling this summer, and want to get a wireless card for my laptop so that I don't have to pay for the service at hotels or try to find a local dialup number. My laptop is wireless enabled. I don't know enough about it to shop knowledgebly. I don't even know the correct terminology. I guess I am not explaining myself very well. How can I get a better connection with my wireless card ? I am having major, connection issues with my new linksys wireless card that I have installed in my desktop. Some times I can connect with the base station at about 34 Mbps. and sometimes at 18 or even 12 Mbps. and I always lose the signal, and drop connection. Can I use a laptop wireless card on a desktop? Is there an adaptor that can buy? I am in the middle of the country and can not get DSL. So I bought the new Cingular G3 wireless card. Is it still possible to buy a laptop with a removable wireless card? I will probably need to buy a new laptop within the next 6 months. My current laptop has a removable wireless card, which I leave at home when I need to get work done. I know that most new laptops have a built-in wireless card, but I would prefer to be able to remove and leave it at home. I like having access to wireless internet, but it can also be very distracting. I wish I had the self-discipline not to check my email or surf the internet, but I do not. I need external constraints. Is all hope for productivity lost?
What is causing my wireless card to shutdown my laptop? My laptop fell off my couch the other day and now when I stick in my wireless card it automatically shuts down my system. It doesn't give me options, it just does it. Can I do anything to fix this or do I need to take the computer to the doc?
How do I fix my wireless network card? My wireless card started disconnecting on me and I have to click "repair my connection" 500 billion times it seems like to get it reconnected. The wireless card is definately unstable. I have tried getting an update for my wireless card but my card seems up-to-date. I have also tried running virus and spyware programs to try and solve the problem and it had not found anything that would stop it from working. I even resorted to restoring a previous save point in XP that I knew that my wireless card was working properly. I am lost if there is anyone out there that has either experienced the same problem and found solutions or someone who knows their wireless network cards , I am all ears.
How do I find the MAC address of my wireless card? I have Belkin f5d7010 PCMCIA wireless card which has no MAC address printed on it. No Box or leaftet available either. How do I get XP to recognize my wireless card? I recently had to replace the hard drive in my Medion laptop. It's only 1 year old. I put the same version of Windows XP on it as I had before. I cannot connect to my wireless connection because it doesn't seem to recognize that I have a wiresless card. What could the issue be and how might I go about solving it. $50/hr or whatever to call Microsoft just doesn't make financial sense.
How to connect to the internet using a wireless card in a desktop?? I know it's easy to connect using a laptop, just pick a connection. I am using a desktop over at my Grandpa's house and I am trying to connect to the Internet, how do I set it up without calling the cable company?? I guess I am just trying to connect to someones internet without paying for it. This will only be for a week, while I move into a house. All I have is my wireless card. Hope I explain this well. Thanks for the help I cannot view any open connections.
wireless card? For her Christmas gift, I promised my daughter I would network our computers so that she can get online when I'm online. Last year I bought her a used laptop with Windows 2000 and a wireless card slot. I went to Radio Shack yesterday and was confused, there are several types of wireless cards to get for her laptop and I left with none. I'm trying not to break the bank with this one and get the most expensive, but she will need a card. The cable company is coming the day after Christmas to hook up their bundle -- phone, cable, and internet service. It will save me alot of money over what I am paying now for phone and internet. They said they would bring a wireless modem for networking up to five computers, and that I should have a wireless card for my daughter's computer, but I don't know what to get. Can you advise me? Thanks in advance. yes, Comcast is the company that is coming to do this for me.

Wireless Card? My computer is hooked up wirelessly to my DSL gateway using a D-Link USB dongle. However, the dongle always maintains a perfect signal strength but occasionally cannot access the Internet until I run Internet Explorer's Network Diagnostic tool. These problems occurred at random and are very temporary; no other wireless device in the house has problems maintaining its connection. I have decided to get rid of the dongle and buy a wireless card for my desktop computer so I can have a more stable connection. However, I'm not sure what I should get. My DSL gateway is currently set to 802.11b/g with a maximum wireless transmission speed of 54mbps. I'm not looking for something too expensive, just something that can match that speed and still keep a good connection all of the time. I'm currently thinking of getting a Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adaptor, advertised at $40...is this a good buy? What do you recommend? Thanks for the input.
Wireless Card? Okay, what if I were to get a wireless card? The one that slides in the side of your laptop, would that get me internet? My thing is I want wireless internet without paying monthly for it. I mean what is the point of having built in wireless if I can't freaking use it.

Wireless PCI card problems? I have a Buffalo super G MIMO wireless router at my downstairs workstation, and until recently I also had a Buffalo super G wireless PCI card for my upstairs computer. The PCI card worked extremely well, strong reliable connections and consistently fast speeds, until the card died the other day. I went and bought a Wireless G Belkin PCI card to replace it, but I have huge problems. It's the standard G card not super G, but the speed is ridiculous! I'm am getting 8-10 Kb/s downloads. My normal (wired) internet speed is around 500Kb/s, and the old Wireless card got around the same. What the heck is wrong?

Broadcom Wireless Card not found in Vista help please? I have a compaq v6000 laptop running Vistaand was using the wireless network yesterday and when I restarted my computer the wireless card disappeared from the device manager. It's like the card was never there. I downloaded the drivers for my computer off the HP website but still won't show up in device manager. Computer says I need to install a wireless card. I know its a broadcom wireless card just not which one. I contacted the Compaq and they said I would have to send it in for repair, that its either the motherboard or the wireless card. They said it would take ten days to get the computer to them and back to me and with college I don't think thats possible. Computer is still under warranty. Is there a way for me to fix this. Problem seems to have solved itself. Like magic, haha. I had a friend look at the computer and he started the computer in safe mode and then restarted. When the computer restarted it found the hardware and reinstalled the drivers itself. Anyone know why it would act like this and should I send it in for repair anyways? Thanks. After I restarted the problem came back. Computer is Compaq v6120us. I contacted the place I bought the pc and they told me its a problem with these computers and that the motherboard is the problem and I will have to send it in for repair. I'm in college so that is out of the question for now. Would my best option be to buy a usb or pci adapter until I can send it in.
Chossing wireless card or USB wireless device / express slots? Looking at laptop computers yesterday and knowing I will need a wireless connection as I will travel with it; I noticed there are wireless cards and also wireless USB devices available (Linksys among others). What is the differance if any (I don't mean where they go into the computer but whay else).? Why would you choose one over the other? Also, do all laptop computers still have PCMIA slots where the wireless card would go. Some laptops had something called express slots. What are these and are they basically a PCMIA slot that does more? Will wireless cards still fit in them? Thanks.
Belkins wireless card better than built in card of 802.11b/g? I have a toshiba laptop (satelite A135-S7404) with a wireless integrated 802.11b/g wireless card. However I live in college dorms and my friend said I can use his router for internet service, the problem is I cannot pick up the signal in my room. I can go outside my room by about 7 feet and get a perfect signal from his linksys router. The guy in the next room can get a perfect signal from my friends router also (he lives like 7 feet to the left of me). So you can see I need a few extra feet of wifi signal strength. I went to walmart and found a belkins wireless external card for 49.99 that claims to go 1000 feet. Would this card be more powerful than my current card? It does not say on my laptop how far my wifi card picks up so im wondering which one is stronger. Thanks
wireless card or wireless dongle? Ive just upgraded to vista (my xp got corrupted and nearly secrewed up my bios) and my wireless PCI card is no longer compatible, as the manufacturers dont make vista drivers for their products, only up to XP. Ive been looking at a new way to get my desktop computer hooked up to the internet and network and thought about a usb dongle instead. They are cheaper, easier to install, can be placed anywhere so long as you have a usb extension cable (which i do) and my computer is a very high performance gaming computer, so the dual video card heats up the network card and significantly lowers its performance, so this problem would be irradicated. however i know nobody who has ever used one, so im wondering if you get a connection thats as good as a wireless card with the dongle , anything else anybody with experience would like to add and if you can get firewire dongles instead of usb, as firewire is a hell of alot quicker than usb
3G wireless cards for the new macbook pro, probably verizon card? All of my family uses verizon wireless for phones. Maybe that helps in my question. On http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/wireless.html, it says "3G wireless cards. No Wi-Fi? No problem. With the ExpressCard slot in MacBook Pro and a 3G wireless card, connect to the Internet anywhere there's a cellular network." Well that sounds great! Only problem is is that how do I get a wireless card, and do I need to buy a plan? Thanks. LINKS ARE GOOD!!! Link to where I found the "3G wireless cards. No Wi-Fi? No problem. With the ExpressCard slot in MacBook Pro and a 3G wireless card, connect to the Internet anywhere there's a cellular network." http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/wireless.html "Yes. You need a plan. If you go to Verizon's website, they will offer free ExpressCard modems for your laptop which allows you to connect to their 3G network. The plan price is $60/month for unlimited usage." $60 extra off of your phone plan??
Wireless notebook card problems- Belkin Wireless G Notebook Card.? I recently purchased a belkin wireless card and put it into my laptop. When it says found new hardware i try to install it but it doesn't find the hardware any where even though its on the CD in the drive. So i tried to download the files and its still not working and the cards lights aren't blinking and i'm getting no signals anywhere. My desktop computer however has a perfect signal with the same kind of wireless card but made for desktops. Yet my laptop isn't getting anything. What wireless card should I use that works best with my Linksys wireless router? I have a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz 54 Mbps Model WRT54G broadband router. I am going to be hooking it up between my roommates desktop computer and our comcast cable box downstairs so that I can get wireless on my desktop computer upstairs. I know how to hook it all up, but I don't know anything about buying a wireless card. I have been looking at this one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/LINKSYS-G-802-11G-USB-CARD-ADAPTER-FOR-WIRELESS-ROUTER_W0QQitemZ190166535876QQihZ009QQcategoryZ45002QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem Is this a good deal? Should I maybe just go somewhere local, or buy new? Skip ebay all-together? Please give me some advice on buying a card it would be greatly appreciated! And I don't trust myself or a salesperson enough to walk into a computer store and get information that is not based on their own commission. Thanks so much again!
Does a wireless card guarantee wireless internet? My laptops wifi was not working and i reformatted my computer. My friend who is smart with cpus reformatted my cpu and installed all the drivers and tried everything with F4 Fn and still my wi-fi dont work He tells me my Wi-fi wont turn on which means it is broken. I do not want to go to no technician because that will probably cost me a lot of money. Can i just buy a dell wireless card for my Dell inspiron 6000 and it will work just like that? My computer had Wi-fi installed when i first got it. It is called Intel Pro Wireless 2200. I see some on ebay for about 20 dollars shipped these wireless cards. Will my laptop's wireless work assuming i get a wireless card? Are those guaranteed to work since it says it is compatible with dell inspiron 6000? Fixing my Wifi would probably cost 100+ since i have to go to a technician.
My Wireless Card Keeps Dropping Connection. Why? I have a D-Link Wireless card that connects to my D-Link wireless router, and it can connect just fine, but any where from 5 minutes to 5 hours later, the connection will drop, but I will have done nothing to the router or wireless card in that time. Tech support has been no help at all, so can some one please help? Side note- Both the wireless card and the router have the latest firmware updates.
Installing an INTERNAL wireless card.? I have a dell inspiron 6000 laptop. My wifi suddenly broke somehow... its not functioning. I then bought a wireless card for it b/c people here said go get one since wifi dont work. However, i found out it was an INTERNAL wireless card i bought online so i cant just plug it in like i can with an external wireless card which is much easier from what i heard. I am horrible with computers and never can install anything. I have a friend who is very smart with computers. I called him now but he didnt respond but i will get to talk to him tomrroow. My quesiton is ... is installing an internal wireless card a real hassle and real hard? I know you have to open the laptop up to do this. How long does it take to install the internet wireless card in assuming you know how to do it? I am giong to ask my friend tomrorwo to help but i just want to know does it take long? thanks everyone.
My Sierra Wireless PC Card keeps disconnecting....why? Please help: I have comcast high speed internet and a wireless card (Sierra 881). I have issues with my wireless PC card disconnecting on me. I mainly use the PC card when I'm traveling, but when at home I'll use Comcast. My problem is that when I'm at home and I try to use my card, it will disconnect on me after about 20 minutes. What is the problem? Is this due to me using a wireless network through comcast and then a wireless network through AT&T? Should I change me network settings? Is there a discrepancy there? I love my comcast internet but this pc card is giving me hell. lol..any suggestions?
Does an external wireless card work better / get a stronger signal than an internal wireless card? I was traveling recently, and normally, I can get wireless connectivity via my laptop and its internal (I'm guessing Intel's) Wi-Fi card. However, the other day in Georgia, I wasn't able to get any signal, despite the fact that people around me were surfing the web just fine. The guy next to me suggested that maybe an external wireless card would work, and lent me his to try for that moment to test. Lo and behold, it worked!! So, the question is, was he just lucky with his external wireless card hypothesis, or, is it a general fact that external cards generally work better than internal cards? Many thanks in advance for your input!! :)

Wireless card and wireless router for laptop? I just got a new Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook equipped with a Dell wireless network card. I do not, however, have access to wireless internet. Does this mean I have to purchase a wireless router in order to wirelessly connect to the internet? Or must I have my notebook hooked up to a modem at all times? I'm confused about the whole wireless internet concept! Any help would be great!! Thanks!
about getting a wireless card? i have a hp pavilion laptop and i i have the modem/router at home allowing me to be able to get the internet and wireless at home butwhen i'm at work i can't seem to get on the internet. i was thinking about buying a wireless card but i wasn't sure whether or not this would work and allow me to access the internet at work. my question is can someone please tell me what's the point of having an wireless card or adapter and which one i would need to buy because there are many and if i bought this would i need to buy anything this else with it. Extended wireless card for laptop? I have looked around at other questions on here about how to increase wireless range, but they all go in circles. I read one site that was posted about making an antenna out of a coffee can, and although interesting, I didn't understand at all how that correlated to being connected to a computer..or internet...so it didn't help me much. Other people talked about increasing range of wireless internet by putting range extender antennas on the router. But what I'm wondering is if you can increase the range from a laptop, not the router. Is there some sort of wireless card that you can use as a range extender? I've looked on e-Bay and bestbuy.com for something but they are all cards for the use of having wireless in general if your laptop doesn't have it already. Am I missing something?
Wireless card not recognized? I had to reinstall WIndows (XP) all over, as my registry got messed up from viruses. Well, I had a nice network going on before, with my laptop and desktop connected through wireless network. I have a Dlink router and card. Now, I even downloaded drivers, but the card has no lights. Internet is working through wireless router and hard wire. Is it just a matter of configuration or my card has a connection problem somewhere? In Network Connections, the only connection showing up is hardwired, I tried to add another one, but I can't seem to do it.
wireless card signal varies? I have a dell inspiron which picks up several wifi connections - it uses intel pro/wireless 220bg card. My older 2 computers however are only picking up one connection - the strongest. Both are b / g enabled So I wish to replace my wireless cards with one similar to my dell Intel card. how do I pick them so they will work just as well? Are there some brands that are better then others? hey, no need to pass judgment as to why I need to connect to several networks. I could just be trying to share my connection with someone.
Is it my wireless card, or my router? Recently I've been experiencing heavy lag when I'm on my wireless connection. If I plug into the router and use a physical link, there's no lag, but if I go wireless on the same router, I lag really badly. Is there any way I can tell whether or not this is my routers wireless capability or my actual wireless card itself? Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG is my internal wireless card My router is a Linksys Wireless-B (BEFW11S4) Thanks guys n gals.

Wireless card for a ThinkPad in India? Hi, I'm buying a ThinkPad from the US for use in India. Is there a particular type of wireless card that would work in India? I have the following choices: 1. Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG 2. Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN 3. ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EMEA/LA/ANZ Thanks.
Wireless card problem? My mother's Dell E1505 laptop is setup for wireless with her DSL connection. The connection speed is extremely slow compared to when she's hardwired to the the Linksys router (820.11g). Could this be an issue with her wireless card? Or is it something else? Here are the upload/download numbers: wired: download speed 1.31 Mbps upload speed 327 kbps wireless: download speed 439 kbps upload speed 150 kbps As you can see, there is a big difference in download speed from wired to wireless. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! I expect it to be slower...I have degradation in speeds with my own machine at home (I have cable), but not to the effect that my mother has. It's almost worse than dial-up just when trying to get to yahoo.com. I'm going to check to see if it's an interference problem. I realize the connection is going to be worse when using wireless (it is with my cable modem), but it should not be as slow as it is. Going from 1.31 Mbps to 439 kpbs is like 1000% worse.
Wireless/Ethernet card? My ethernet/wireless card in my laptop just decided to die on me. I literally can't connect to the Internet through wireless OR ethernet cord. It was built in, so I'm not sure what kind it is. I need a new one, but I'm pretty much useless when it comes to this stuff. I looked on Amazon for some possibilities, but a lot of them seem like you need to have the same brand of router. Like I said, I'm pretty useless at this kind of thing. Can anyone recommend me a good wireless/ethernet card that I can use to connect to the closest available network? Thanks!
Network Card(Wireless-G) not able to detect any connections, but computer next to me can?!? Recently I restored my computer and had to reinstall the drivers for my wireless card. I have everything going and the light on the hardware glows green but for some reason I can't find a connection anywhere! I know a connection exists because the computer next to me is connect to it, hence being able to type this up. I recently changed slots it was in but reinstalled them once I did, but still nothing. Anyone have any ideas how to get the card or software to pick up signals? Card: Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter model number WMP54G
Belkin Wireless Card installation? I installed the Belkin Wireless Utility but I accidentally clicked no when I was prompted yes/no to keep installing the actual card(windows logo testing). Now when I click on the Utility it says No Adapters. How do I install the actual card now. I think when I said no it automatically stopped asking me to install the card. It would say "New Software Found" but not anymore. How do I install the card NOT the utility. P.S. I did mess up by putting the card itself in before installing the utility with the provided disc.
Wireless Card? Looking into getting a wireless card for my laptop. Im a little new to the whole process - so im looking for advice on which provider/plan/contract or not? etc Any help is appreciated.
