Features List For The Blackberry Torch 9800

Blackberry phones have been popular for a long time, and the latest addition to their line is the Blackberry Torch 9800. If you had been keeping track of the release of the Blackberry Torch 9800 you will have noticed a lot of hype surrounding it and wondered if it would meet the hype, well it did. If you do not use AT&T as your cell carrier, the Blackberry Torch 9800– sold exclusively to AT&T–  can easily be unlocked for use with other cell phone providers.

The two greatest functions of other Blackberry phones– the keypad and the touch screen– have finally been merged into one with the Blackberry Torch. The original Blackberry Touch was very popular among touch screen users, but some Blackberry users were looking for the old familiar keyboard. Many turned to the Blackberry Crush just to have that keyboard, but there are times when having a touch screen is a definite advantage.

Then along comes the Blackberry Torch, complete with touch screen and full keyboard. It also includes the standard navigation buttons that have worked so well on earlier Blackberries, so if you haven’t upgraded in a while, you’ll feel right at home with this model. For those who prefer to type their messages with a keyboard rather than a touchpad, there is a full keyboard that slides open for easy access. This keeps the keyboard unit safe and compact, while and also preventing any buttons from being pushed when transporting the unit in a pocket or bag.

As always with a Blackberry phone, the Torch features reliable and durable construction. With the keyboard it is slightly thicker than other Blackberrys which makes it feel even more solid. Many were skeptical about the durability of the slider itself, but most have been amazed with its construction. You will seen all of the other features that you are used to seeing with smart phones and other Blackberry models, such as web surfing, Bluetooth capabilities and GPS. Although it does not capture video, the Blackberry Torch 9800 does include a robust five megapixel camera with the phone.

The Blackberry Torch is being compared to the iPhone 4 and has held its ground against the incredibly popular Apple phone. With so many great features that stand up well to the competition, you may find yourself in a tough spot trying to decide which one is right for you – in which case you may need to decide if you really want the keyboard.

Remember, the Blackberry Torch is serviced only by AT&T at the moment. If you currently have a different carrier, the Torch can easily be unlocked. Just keep in mind that the Torch is equipped with a SIM card, so you’ll need to replace the SIM card if you decide to use it with a different carrier. When you get one it will come supplied with a code you need to input in order to unlock the phone.

If you prefer not to change the SIM card, you’ll need to ask your current provider for the unlock code, which they’ll be able to provide you after you give them your IMEI number. By navigating to the Device menu, the IMEI number can be found under the “Device and Status Information” sub-menu.
