Backup – Lifeline For Your Computer Information

Backup protection not just give protection against lost data as a result by hardware breakdown, lost power, extreme weather, or some other disaster. No, the backups also give extra security against small mishaps. We do to portable external hard drives and to tape drive backup in order to protect the company from loss of its data that could cripple it if it happens. But sometimes, the protections of backups are not for businesses but for home users. These are private computer users who have not done regular backups and collected tons of family photos the loss of which makes great personal distress.

Suppose you work as a PC computer geek and you get contacted by a desperate home user who say that the computer stopped working and the computer won’t start up again. Most likely the hard disk had a breakdown. And you know by what you have learned that there would probably not exist any backup. Suppose for a moment! The user, since he was able to display DOS blinking prompt, tried a help program called FDISK. He thought that the name meant “Fix disk” and he delete it from one of the disk partitions. This is a situation when a utility to recover lost data partitions is handy to have.

Disk partitions should be worked on to those who are experts on them and how unforgiving it can be if the tools used to work on them are used incorrectly. One natural alternative is to have a partition utility such as Norton Ghost. By using this software you can make a partition backup of computer system files, including configuration files and if you add to that data backup products such as Novastor Backup you can make full backups of user files using incremental backup. In some cases, a simple partition recovery utility can put a disk partition back into operation with little data loss.

Just because a disk will not boot the computer does not necessarily mean the system disk is all bad. In some cases only a small area went bad but that area is keeping the operating system from starting up because that too much errors get reported. And, if a partition gets accidentally deleted, the information is still stored there and the partition table may just have to be restored.

EASEUS Partition Manager is one software which can restore deleted partitions. Another is File Scavenger. File Scavenger even advertises that it can recover from formatting a partition. And there are other tools but the goal for you is to get the PC to be restored to situation so you can move off the data files and then to recreate a fresh partition. Next after using a partition recovery software utility, the hope is that Windows can be booted up. If the case is that it doesn’t work as planned, you like to be able to get a DOS prompt to show up so that you are able to see the files that then are need to be removed to another location.

If you can get to the DOS command prompt and see all the files in the user’s “My Documents” folder, then it should be possible for you to hook up an remote disk device (preferably a USB extra removable hard disk) and start to move the data files off to the other device. From here, the disk drive should be reformatted, Windows reloaded, and the moved files can be recovered. This of course is a complicated and time consuming process but your client should by satisfied to get the family photo album return in its original state.
